‘Summit’ of Mt. Saint Helens

Tuesday, June 6th, 2017

Last week, I climbed Mt. Hood. Today, we went up Mt. Saint Helens.

Going up

Sam snagged some last minute permits and we drove out to the Worm Flows parking lot. This is the winter route. It adds an extra few miles and 1000 extra feet of elevation, but is was well worth it. After a short jaunt in the woods, we got onto the snow for the long trudge uphill.

At first we were in dense fog. As we climbed, things began to get better and better. By the top, we were well above the clouds and had a great view.

Getting back down

The best part of the winter route is sliding back down. The snow was perfect for glacading and we took advantage of it.
