WV13: Thinking Beyond the Device
Thursday, May 23rd, 2013
Responsive Web Design is just one of the tools we use to create better designs. In this session, we’ll explore what “better” design is, and apply that in new ways as we craft interactions between people and web sites and applications.
Notes:
How many of you sleep with your phone? How long have you been sleeping with your device?
When you randomly wake up at 3am, look at the time and end up checking your email for hours.
We are completely in <3 with our devices.
Would your organization be upset if they knew that the mobile site looked exactly the same as every other mobile site?
It’s all about the context:
- time
- location (proximity)
- mindset
Use location information (distance) to show particular view on the map: airport, transit, walking directions, building map!
Take Away:Â Use location to change view on map admin interface!
- If at a campus location, starts on your location (zoomed) for new map.
- Show your location vs marker location.
- Big button: (Use my current location)
Content in context is king!
