Mt Adams 2025
Monday, July 21st, 2025
My dad was interested in heading to Mt Adams and I am always up for some time on that particular mountain.
We were planning to go on Friday, but the weather looked better on Thursday, my dad met me at my place that evening after work. It took me a little while to get gear together, but we were on the rode by 11 and hit the parking lot about 1:30am. Turned out to be a full moon and was incredibly bright. I normally run through a bunch of batteries on these overnight trips, but this time we didn’t even need our headlamps most of the time. My dad was in good shape and we made steady, but slow progress up to the top of the lunch counter.
Despite the good weather prediction, the wind steadily picked up through the night. Luckily it died back down before dawn.
During the heat of the day, we made our way up the steep 2000′ glacier. Snow was in good condition at first, but slowly softened up. About half way up, I had start kicking steps for my dad to follow without sliding. Soon enough we rounded the top of Pikers Peak (11,500′).
From there, we walked over the to the final approach below the summit block, but decided to turn back here. It was getting late in the day and the weather was rapidly changing. On the way back we enjoyed glorious views and a 2000′ continuous slide back to the Lunch counter.
