Black Frost (An Epic CDA) Black Frost (An Epic CDA)

Friday, November 5th, 2010

This is one that I have wanted to brew for a while. Cascadian Dark Ale (CDA) is a jet black, highly hopped beer style. They are  often referred to as “Black IPA”, but do have subtle malt characteristics. Though, this is all up for debate, since neither CDA or Black IPA is an official BJCP […]

Garden tomato sauce Garden tomato sauce

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

After harvesting from the garden yesterday, we had a lot of produce to process. First up? Tomato sauce: Alton Brown has a great recipe that you can see in full at the food network. We didn’t actually follow the exact measurements – just the general steps: Halve and de-seed the tomatoes. We didn’t bother de-seeding […]

Shakespearish Stout Shakespearish Stout

Sunday, October 24th, 2010

It turned out to be a very rainy Sunday. My plan was to work in the yard, but it was way too wet for that. So, instead I decided to brew. This is the second time that we have done a 10 gallon batch based on the Rogue recipe. The last batch was delicious even […]

Gibbous Strong Scotch Ale Gibbous Strong Scotch Ale

Friday, October 15th, 2010

With the move and everything else keeping us busy, there has not been a lot of time to brew. This was our first opportunity in several months. The recipe chosen is actually a modified version of my first all grain batch – a super heavy scotch that we named “Perigee” based on the phase of […]

With the summer coming to an end, we have created a thriving garden – including: raised beds, blueberries, wine grapes, fig trees, and rows of black/raspberries. Now, our attention turns to the garage… Current condition The current garage […]

Wonderland Trail Wonderland Trail

Monday, August 30th, 2010

I just got back from spending 8 great days on the Wonderland Trail. Scott, Bryan and I completed the full loop around Mt Rainier from August 20 – 27, 2010. I wrote a short journal each day. My plan is to post those soon, but for now here are a few highlights from the trip:

Wonderland Trail (almost done) Wonderland Trail (almost done)

Today is our last day on the trail. It is also the first time that I have gotten any signal. I will post loads more photos when back home, but here is one to tie you over.

To the Beach To the Beach

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

I rode the motorcycle down to the beach this weekend for a friends birthday. Each year, I consider doing this – yet, the bike is almost 40 and a bit unrealiable. In the end, it ended up performing perfectly. Even the weather held up. Good times.

Hot sauce, how do I love thee?

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

The Belizeans have created a very distinctive style of sauce which is characterized by the addition of carrots. If you can get organic or even better home-grown then the carrot influence will be all the more pronounced. For each batch Habanero (or similar heat level) peppers (1-2oz for mild, 4 for medium, 6+hot) 3/4 cup […]
