WPCampus: Mapping with accessibility in mind

Friday, July 26th, 2019

Navigating a large college campus can be daunting for new students, especially for those with a disability. Providing a detailed, accurate, accessible map can help everyone get where they need to go.

While the technology to create beautiful, interactive maps has been around for a while – many colleges only include a limited amount of information. Often, this is not a technological hurdle, but a content creation issue. At PCC we’ve solved this by using WordPress to distribute the ability to add items to the map. Our team also works closely with Disability Services to set standards that keep the map as accessible as possible.

In this 45 minute session, I will talk about the history of this project and show you how to set up your own platform to collect and maintain user generated map content.
